Hi Everyone,

I am so happy to tell you that I have found a great organization to become involved with.  The Tennyson Center for Children is amazing!  It is a place for kids to have a home, learn, and feel safe in the company of wonderful staff and volunteers.  Y. Lo Epicure is going to be getting more and more involved with them in the months and years to come!

Last week I donated a cake to the children who had or have birthday’s coming up in the summer.  When the kids started to walk in they all looked right at the cake and I could tell they loved it!  I wrote all of their names on their own fondant circles.  I worked with Barb, a genuine and great person I met for the first time that day.  She brought tons and tons of gifts for the kids to choose from.  We played a couple of games, got to know the kids, and ate lots of cake!! It was a special day for everyone and I am so glad that I was able to do something for these amazing children.

Thank you to the Tennyson Center for all you do, your work and dedication is the reason these kids have a such a wonderful environment to grow in.  If anyone would like more information on how to get involved or to make a donation to the Tennyson Center for Children, you can visit their website by clicking HERE

Hi There,

What a week!  We had a very succcessful wedding this weekend.  The couple had their wedding at the Montclair Civic Buidling in Denver.  It was a day wedding, which is a nice change for us!  Now all of you brides out there who are looking to save money on food costs, listen to this…  Since their wedding was during the day, they had delicious panini sandwiches and pasta salad.  Now here is where they also were smart, instead of having a huge, expensive cake, they treated their guests to Mini Assorted Cheescakes, Chocolate Drizzled Cream Puffs, Lemen Tartlets, and Chocolate Covered Strawberries, ooh my mouth just watered!  BUT, they still had a cake that I did for them, which was a small 6 inch, beautiful cake with a blush pink garden rose and delicate piping (picture coming soon!).  They wanted to have a cake to cut, which I think is a great idea, but the cake was only $40!! Plus it was my favorite, Chocolate with Swiss Buttercream, yum!  So if you are looking to save money but still enjoy your meal, just call us, we will take care of you and always fit in with your budget 🙂

Also this week, we catered the first of 4 golf clinics with the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce.   If you are not familiar with the chamber, get familiar!  Everyone is so nice there, so helpful, the members are unbeleivable, and overall they really care about you and your work!  They are having a golf series this summer, and it is such a fun thing for members to get invovled in.  Every week they have a clinic where they teach you some extremely helpful things, then they all come in from the hot sun and cool off with some wine, beer and water, great food 🙂 of course, and they get to network for a little while before a speaker will talk about a golf topic.  The speaker last week was phenomenal and we all really enjoyed ourselves.  If you did not sign up this year, I highly recommend it for next year!

Hi Everyone,

Our first wedding of the month happened on Saturday!  Before I get into everything, I want to apologize for being a space cadet because I forgot to bring my camera to the wedding!  Therefore we don’t have any beautiful pictures to share with you 😦  I am so mad too, because I seem to always forget my camera when we have cool events!  So here is my promise to all of you Y. Lo fans out there: from here on out, I will bring my camera, take lots of pictures, and show you what we really are all about!

Enough about that, the wedding was so much fun!  It was for a really great couple and I must say, the bride looked amazing that night!  I know they are in Hawaii now, and for that I am jealous, but I hope they have a great time because they deserve it!

The planning started in March for their wedding.  They had it at 910 Arts on Sante Fe Drive.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with the space, it is great and they always have such cool artwork up, it adds beauty to any event!  Plus the people who work there are wonderful!  The wedding was done in beautiful corals and blues.  Everything was set up perfectly and looked great!

For the menu we prepared Caramel Walnut Baked Brie En Croute with Crackers, and Toast Points,  and Imported and Domestic Cheese Display with Berries.  This was for after the ceremony when they did the champagne toast (and when we scrambled together to transform the room for the reception).

We then served Sweet Teriyaki Beef Tenderloin Skewers, Chicken and Vegetable Potstickers Served with Sesame Soy Dipping Sauce, Sundried Tomato and Artichoke Pesto Wontons, Sliced Chorizo and Mini Meatballs Served in a Spicy Homemade Tomato Sauce,  Garlic Shrimp Skewers Served with Tangy Cocktail Sauce, Hot Blue Crab and Artichoke Dip Served with Toasted Buttered Crostini, and last but not least, Creamy Herbed Boursin Cheese Stuffed Button Mushrooms.

PLUS we had our executive chef handle a Crepe Station!  We served Homemade Crepes made to order with Fresh Ingredients (Ham, Shredded Chicken, Cheddar Cheese, Sautéed Spinach, Mushroom, Nutella Spread, Strawberry, Banana and Powdered Sugar) YUM!

At the end of the evening the groom came up to us and said he had so many compliments on the food, including this one, “you know I have been to a lot of weddings, but I have never had food this good!”  So I guess we did our job right!  Everything went smoothly, the food was enjoyed, the guests were happy, and although it was a late night for us, we were happy too!

Thanks for staying tuned into the crazy lives of caterers, until next time!

Hi There,

I am so happy to be part of the Y. Lo team, and one of the biggest reasons why is because Ms. Lisa used to never get a vacation without bringing her laptop to the beach!  She took a vacation with her fiance the past few days, and I was in charge of making sure everything ran smoothly 🙂  Which it did!  She was able to relax, and I was able to handle things on my own (which is a very good feeling after training the past couple of months).

Tuesday was a great day to get things accomplished in the office since we only had a couple of orders.  Wednesday was a different story.  We had to utilize every employee to do deliveries because there was no way I could do them all myself…  We even had to have another person who is not an employee do a delivery as well!  Usually it is Lisa and I who handle them, but some days we physically cannot stretch ourselves in that many directions.  Plus this day, Lisa wasn’t here!  But it went great, we got everything there on time and the rain did not slow us down!  I now know what it is like to be Lisa on a crazy day, and it is crazy!  I went to Sam’s twice, drove around 200 miles doing deliveries and then picking everything up.  Plus I started at 6 am, by the end of the day I was wiped out, I passed out on the couch at 9!

On another note, as I work from home I have the television on in the background and Ace of Cakes is on.  Below is one of our most recent cakes, a hunting theme clearly.  It was a lot of fun, nothing compared to Ace of Cakes though!  But I am always up for a challenge, if you are interested in getting something done that is a little different, fun, funky, and fabulous, give me a call!  I love  a new challenge!

Hi There,

I know it has been a week since my last blog, but we were slammed last week!  Which is great!  We catered for the United Church of Christ, 3 days, lunch and dinner, and they needed someone there for each meal because it was for 85 people!  First of all, I must say that we have such a lucky job!  I love meeting new people and these people were so incredibly nice, it was such a pleasure helping them out throughout those few days.  So if any of you happen to come across this blog, it was so nice meeting you and you were such a great group of people!

As I spoke with the woman who hired us, I aksed her how she made her decision since she was choosing between 3 catering companies. This sort of thing interests me since I do a lot of marketing and sales for Y. Lo.  We got the job because we are a small, locally based company.  I think that is a great reason to go with Y. Lo!  Not only are we local, but being small is something that people look for specifically because we are great to work with.  When it comes to big events like this one, if you call us, either Lisa or myself will answer.  If you are working with me, you can easily get a hold of me, I will know everything about your event, and I will know you (which I think is the most important).  Plus, we offer the BEST customer service in town!  I don’t think you can go wrong with a company like ours because ultimately, in the end, we always care so much!

On top of this we had a ton of other orders that we had for other companies as well for the week.  I must say that with the exception of leaving one thing behind (we had our sous chef drop it off, and no harm no foul again!), we did very well with the amount of work we had!  Even though one day I drove back and forth on I-25 four times to the DTC!

We also brough on a new member of team this week, Mitch.  He helped out with the plethera of orders we had last week, and is in the kitchen right now with our chef, Yolonda, working hard so that our sous chef, Andrea can have the day off.  He did a great job and we are really excited that he is holding up with all these women he has to put up with!!  Thanks Mitch!
